Oophaga sylvatica 'Koi'
Oophaga sylvatica 'Koi' (Locale 1)
Line: Tesoros 2026 Import
Oophaga sylvatica ‘Koi’ is an incredibly striking large obligate that is arguably the most coveted morph in the history of the hobby. Often described by collectors as the “holy grail” of all dart frogs, Koi is known for its vivid red to orange body color combined with pale blue, white, and black marbling. The pattern can vary dramatically between individuals, giving each frog a distinctive, one-of-a-kind appearance reminiscent of ornamental koi fish.
For many years, this extraordinary Colombian morph was known to most hobbyists only through photographs and observations from its native range. Its legal arrival in the United States represents the culmination of more than a decade of conservation-focused breeding, permit navigation, and traceable-export work by Tesoros de Colombia. Their program was created to provide an ethcal alternative to wildlife trafficking, and Colombian authorities eventually granted approval for the first legal export of captive-bred Oophaga sylvatica, which occurred October of 2026.
Sylvatica are not for beginners. This species is best suited for established keepers who understand the needs of obligate egg-feeding dart frogs and can provide a stable, humid, heavily planted setup. A mature vivarium with abundant leaf litter, bromeliads, climbing surfaces, and multiple deposition sites will help this locale display and reproduce naturally. Koi is an exceptional choice for serious Oophaga collectors seeking a historically significant sylvatica with unmatched color, rarity, and individual variation.
